For most people, a Honda is a solid and highly reliable car, but for those of us who love to travel on two wheels, Honda means the legendary Gold Wing touring motorcycle. Boasting more awards than the Oscars, the 2008 version of the GL1800 Goldwing is the best ever. I can’t believe the way this thing handles. To be more precise, it handles like a dream with power to spare. The bike is super quiet, super smooth and just sails along effortlessly. To be honest, it can be a boat at slow speeds but once you are underway, it’s more like a graceful race horse at full gallop.

This has been the best touring bike I have ever ridden. I was surprised with the speed & quickness of this Gold Wing. Overall, I loved riding the bike. It never ceased to amaze me with its good power, great handling, and great fuel mileage.

Touring Features

Excellent rider foot room

Large passenger cockpit.

Slow-speed, electric Reverse system

Electronic cruise-control system

Aerodynamic functional bodywork

Six position Adjustable windscreen

Adjustable and closable windscreen vents

60 liters of trunk storage capacity

Saddlebags provide another 80-plus liters of storage

Saddlebag lids feature hydraulic dampers for smooth operation

Speaking of storage, it is some of the best designed luggage on any bike and get this… it all locks and unlocks from the key-fob. Yes, remote locking on a bike, how cool is that! This special feature allows you to pop-open the rear trunk, remote lock/unlock the trunk and saddlebags and let’s not forget about the horn-actuated bike locator.

Pockets are located in the fairing and rear trunk for convenient, easy-access storage. Instrument cluster includes white-on-black analog displays for speedometer, tachometer, coolant temperature and fuel level, plus features adjustable back lighting and high-luminescence red pointers.

Indicator/warning lights are provided for reverse, neutral, overdrive, oil pressure, fuel injection, high beam, side stand, cruise on, cruise set and low fuel.

A high-resolution LCD housed in a separate module is visible in all lighting conditions and displays the odometer, A/B tripmeter, ambient temperature, audio modes, CB, rear-suspension setting, trunk/saddlebag-open indicators and a clock.

Motorized headlight-aiming system is operated by a dial switch and provides 2.5 degrees of adjustment from level.

This thing has an owner manual the size of a phone book but that’s okay… you will love reading it

I am told that the LT stands for Light Touring, but it could easily stand for Luxury Touring. This Kawasaki is equipped with just about every touring feature you could want on a cruiser, such as adjustable windshield, driver floorboards, extra comfy touring seat, saddlebags, and a passenger backrest.

The adjustable windshield can be set at several heights to suit the rider’s comfort, and on the windy and gusty weekend I took the bike out for my test ride it worked perfectly. The bike and the ride is just rock solid, motor has great power without the typical v twin vibrations, and the seating position is comfortable.

Many riders will consider this bike to be a middleweight cruiser and I have to be honest. I have ridden some 1100 and 1300 cruisers that seemed to work harder than this bike does going down the road. This Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT offers a comfortable two-up riding capability with plenty of storage. Speaking of storage the saddle bags are made from heavy duty leather and hard mounted, so they won’t be flopping around in the wind or sagging after you load them up.

The Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic LT has lots of things going for it, from a reliable fuel injected motor to a relative vibration ride – but the best feature maybe the price – you will be hard pressed to find a bike that has all the features of the 900 LT for anywhere near it’s price! And, you guessed it! My wife took a ride with me on this bike, and she loved it! Thought it offered a real smooth and quiet ride, which she didn’t expect. And believe me, she is one tough customer!

Riding the Spyder is a blast – the Spyder corners with very little body roll, and can actually generate some g force in a turn. It’s how you handle it that is different on a Spyder. You see, where cars have seat backrests and motorcycles lean over, the Spyder riders have to hang off to the inside like some kind of sidecar jockey.

You do this to keep from falling off, not to keep from falling over. The Spyder is amazingly stable, thanks to all of the technical systems. Just to name a few: you have your speed-sensitive electric-assist steering, and a non-switchable suite of Bosch stability and traction-control systems, then you have linked breaking system with ABS, of course.

I think it drives like the fastest ATV or snow mobile eve; the only thing reminding me of a motorcycle is the handlebar and controls. Well, even the handlebar is a little different, no front brake lever! (the Spyder’s ABS hydraulic brakes are operated by foot pedal) The clutch and five-speed gearbox are both very similar to a motorcycle with the only exception is reverse… which on a 700 lb machine is great and not any old silly electric reverse. We are talking a real put -in -reverse… let the clutch out and just show off.

This thing takes a full 100 or 200 miles before you really start to get the hang of it and then you really can start to appreciate what a cool ride this is. Got to tell you that the wife… pulled into the drive and said “that thing is too cool! let’s go for a ride!” And this coming from a woman who would rather go shoe shopping! Well, she was giggling non stop for first five minutes!

This baby has the tricked out six spoke wheels, leather seat, and a Two Brothers pipe that makes this thing sound like some kind of wild Mad Max Ride.. I just could not stop blipping the throttle! I could go on and on about this baby, but I think instead I will just take it out for a ride around the lake!

I’ve ridden for over 40 years — Triumph, BSA, Norton, BMW and a number of Japanese bikes, in every style from old school choppers to a K1100LT.

Got to tell you if you’re thinking of buying any Touring bike (hell any street bike) do not sign on the dotted line, until you ride a ‘wing. This is one of the best bikes I’ve ever ridden, bar none .

Power, throttle modulation, balance and positioning are awesome on this bike. It gets better every time I ride it. On the twisties, it’s easy to forget you’re on a touring bike. On the highway, it’s a luxury ride. This bike does it all, and very well.

That an old grumpy guy would have so much fun on something that he just knew was going to be way too small to have any fun on. I mean, it’s a 250 right?

Well got to tell you… there was nothing small about the fun factor of this bike. I was all grins under my helmet.

This sweet heart is nimble, light and gets super gas mileage (60 plus MPG). Powered by a 248cc twin this thing is no slouch, its 14,000 RPM redline makes it a real screamer.

Top speed is in excess of 90 mph – yup, that’s what I said. in excess of 90, and it did not take all day to get to 90 either – I would say just over quarter of a mile (hey I was getting onto I-4!)

Got to tell you… if you are 5 foot something you’re going to think someone made this just for you, but even at 6 foot I don’t fill cramped or out of place on it. Guess that is why it’s Kawasaki’s best-selling motorcycle, and has been experiencing steady double-digit sales growth year after year.
